the feminine memory
statement:
FEM MEMORY is a mapping of the physical and emotional body. It explores how an individual interprets, discerns and caches experience. Predominant symbols in the work refer to both the corporeal and cognitive memory in relation to femininity, sexuality, repression, trauma, processing, transformation.
Exhibition:
The works are part of an ongoing series. This series can be seen as expansive and transmutative, as the original form erodes, decomposes, recompiles, fuses, disjoints, and naturally evolves along the iterations.
The mappings are approximately 8 feet by 10 feet (100 in. x 124 in.) and can be engaged with as a large scale map. The viewer becomes an explorer of sorts, similar to a speleologist navigating a frequented cavern or to a geologist surveying unfamiliar topography.
There are 22 works in the series currently. The works are to be displayed at full scale. If in real time, along a wall, turning corners and winding around a room. The viewer is encouraged to move alongside the mappings in synchronicity with the progressions. As the viewer is surveying the subtleties in the terrain and understanding the geomorphology of the entire series, they are simultaneously observing their personal and inner landscapes.
